Norman Lebrecht’s BBC Radio 3 broadcast “In Search of Mahler” can be heard online for the next seven days.

“In the year of the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler’s birth, Norman Lebrecht travels in the footsteps of the composer in search of those whose lives have been touched and changed by his music.”

As part of his own celebration of the Mahler anniversary years, Christoph Eschenbach has published high quality videos of his current series of Mahler concerts with the Orchestre de Paris. Symphonies 1, 2, 6 and 8 are already online. The films, directed by François Goetghebeur, are a collaboration with the Orchestre de Paris and Medici TV.

The next performance is the Ninth Symphony on the 15th June.

The Stockholm Konserthuset’s Mahler series is in full swing, presenting all of Mahler’s orchestral works in just 12 days. Eight orchestras join together to present this tightly packed presentation of Mahler’s music. 

The series is accompanied by a large exhibition and a 200 page programme book, created together with Henry-Louis de La Grange.

Swedish Radio is recording all the symphonies, some of which will be broadcast live.

Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel gave his inaguaral concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic yesterday, including a performance of Mahler’s 1st Symphony.

This week’s Building a Library programme from BBC Radio 3 concerns itself with Mahler’s Lied von der Erde.

Stephen Johnson examins the available recordings of Das Lied von der Erde and makes his own personal recommendation.

TV viewers in France and Germany can watch Claudio Abbado’s performance of Mahler’s 4th Symphony with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra this Sunday 30th August, 19.00, on ARTE.

The opening concert of this year’s Lucerne Festival is broadcast this Friday, 21st August, 20.05 CET on Bayern 4 Klassik Radio (and others in Germany).

This year’s BBC Proms have a number of concerts of Mahler’s music. Matthias Goerne, Jonathan Nott, David Robertson, Dawn Upshaw, Bernard Haitink and Riccardo Chailly take their respective turns on stage at the Royal Albert Hall.
