<p style="text-align: left;">The <a href="http://www.stmwfk.bayern.de/Kunst/theatermuseum.aspx">German Theatre Museum</a> is showing the exhibition Gustav Mahler &#8211; Composer, Opera Director, Conductor until 18 September. The exhibition features the video interviews made by Universal Edition.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The <a href="http://www.mahler-2011.de/">Leipzig Mahler Festival</a> starts today at the Gewandhaus with Riccardo Chailly conducting the 2nd Symphony. All concerts will be broadcast live on the internet by <a href="http://liveweb.arte.tv/fr/video/2e_symphonie_en_ut_mineur_de_Gustav_Mahler/">ARTE</a> and the <a href="http://www.mdr.de/mahler">MDR</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">It is with these words that the <strong><a href="http://www.khm.at/de/khm/ausstellungen/kommende-sonderausstellungen/leider-bleibe-ich-ein-eingefleischter-wiener/">Austrian Theatre Museum</a></strong> has titled its new exhibition on the life and music of Gustav Mahler, celebrating his 150th birthday. <p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Claudio Abbado </strong>dirigiert nach 17 Jahren wieder ein Konzert an der Mailänder Scala. Am 4. Juni 2010 plant der Stardirigent sein Comeback im Mailänder Opernhaus mit Mahlers zweiter Symphonie, die er bereits bei seinem Debüt an der Scala im Jahr 1963 dirigiert hatte. Anlass ist der 150. <p style="text-align: left;">„Ich habe das Programm gewechselt. Die achte Symphonie war die einzige der Symphonien Mahlers, die ich an der Scala nie dirigiert hatte. Ich habe darin aber nichts Neues und Anregendes gefunden. Daher habe ich beschlossen, die zweite Symphonie in die Hand zu nehmen, die ‚Auferstehung‘. Das ist ein viel versprechender Titel, der öfters in meinem Leben aufgetaucht ist“, wurde Abbado von der Mailänder Tageszeitung <em>Corriere della Sera </em>zitiert.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Zur Rückkehr an die Scala entschloss sich der 75-jährige Abbado, nachdem die Stadt Mailand auf eine außergewöhnliche Forderung seinerseits eingegangen war: Statt einer Gage für ihn solle die lombardische Metropole 90.000 Bäume pflanzen. Dem in Mailand geborenen Dirigenten wurde daraufhin von der Stadtverwaltung ein Plan zur Anpflanzung der Bäume vorgelegt. Abbado ist Naturliebhaber und leidenschaftlicher Hobby-Gärtner. Die Bäume sollen in zehn verschiedenen kleinen Wäldern rund um die lombardische Hauptstadt und in einigen Parks angepflanzt werden. Außerdem sollen auf Abbados Wunsch mehrere Pappeln rund um den Domplatz angepflanzt werden.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">1986 hatte Abbado im Streit mit dem Opernhaus die Musikleitung der Scala abgegeben. Seitdem hatte er das Orchester des Theaters nicht mehr dirigiert. Auftritte der Wiener Philharmoniker leitete er dort in den Jahren 1988 und 1992. Zuletzt hatte Abbado die Berliner Philharmoniker an der Scala im Jahr 1993 dirigiert.</p>
