In advance of the 100th anniversary of Mahler’s death tomorrow, here are a few pointers to activities, concerts and reports to be found across the internet.

The German Theatre Museum is showing the exhibition Gustav Mahler – Composer, Opera Director, Conductor until 18 September. The exhibition features the video interviews made by Universal Edition.

The Leipzig Mahler Festival starts today at the Gewandhaus with Riccardo Chailly conducting the 2nd Symphony. All concerts will be broadcast live on the internet by ARTE and the MDR.

Alex Ross has a round up of Mahler performances available on the internet, including Christoph Eschenbach’s series of the Mahler symphonies with the Orchestre de Paris.

Gavin Plumley has been charting the last days of Mahler’s life on his Entartete Musik Blog.

Christoph Eschenbach and the Orchestre de Paris

To celebrate the Mahler anniversary years 2010 and 2011, as well as the conductor’s 70th birthday, Christoph Eschenbach and the Orchestre de Paris have made high definition video recordings of the Mahler series they presented this season available online.

All symphonies as well as the interview Christoph Eschenbach gave to Universal Edition are now online.

Christoph Eschenbach and the Orchestre de Paris

As part of his own celebration of the Mahler anniversary years, Christoph Eschenbach has published high quality videos of his current series of Mahler concerts with the Orchestre de Paris. Symphonies 1, 2, 6 and 8 are already online. The films, directed by François Goetghebeur, are a collaboration with the Orchestre de Paris and Medici TV.

The next performance is the Ninth Symphony on the 15th June.

Mahler Symphony No. 1 for chamber orchestra

The Aurora Orchestra has announced the British première of Klaus Simon’s arrangement of Mahler’s 1st Symphony for chamber orchestra.

The performance takes place at this year’s Oundle Festival in England on 16 July.

Mahler at the Konserthuset in Stockholm

The Stockholm Konserthuset’s Mahler series is in full swing, presenting all of Mahler’s orchestral works in just 12 days. Eight orchestras join together to present this tightly packed presentation of Mahler’s music.

The series is accompanied by a large exhibition and a 200 page programme book, created together with Henry-Louis de La Grange.

Swedish Radio is recording all the symphonies, some of which will be broadcast live.

Gustavo Dudamel’s Inaugaral Concert in Los Angeles

Mahler’s Fourth for Chamber Orchestra in Italy
