Mahler and the Sydney Symphony in 2010

Sydney Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2010 season, including an impressive “Mahler Odyssey 2010-2011″. Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts six separate programs in the first year of celebrations:

Program 4: Mahler’s Song of the Earth (26, 28 & 29 May)

Orchestre de Paris and Mahler’s 3rd Symphony

The Orchestre de Paris opens its 2009-2010 season with Christoph Eschenbach conducting Mahler’s 3rd Symphony (16 and 17 September, Salle Pleyel Paris).

The New Zealand International Arts Festival has just announced that its 2010 festival will open with a performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony. Vladimir Ashkenazy will conduct the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Claudio Abbado – Rückkehr an die Mailänder Scala mit Mahlers 2. Symphonie

Claudio Abbado dirigiert nach 17 Jahren wieder ein Konzert an der Mailänder Scala. Am 4. Juni 2010 plant der Stardirigent sein Comeback im Mailänder Opernhaus mit Mahlers zweiter Symphonie, die er bereits bei seinem Debüt an der Scala im Jahr 1963 dirigiert hatte. Anlass ist der 150. Geburtstag Mahlers. Bisher wollte Abbado noch im Juni 2010 mit dem Symphonischen Orchester der Scala Mahlers achte Symphonie aufführen. (more…)

Mahler Festival at the San Francisco Symphony

As reported in the Los Angeles Chronicle, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra starts its 2009/10 season with a festival of Mahler’s music. Michael Tilson Thomas (see our video interview) is joined by soloists Susan Graham and Thomas Hampson.

Mahler in Thailand and Taiwan

The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra — together with the Tübingen Chamber Orchestra — is performing Mahler’s 1st Symphony on the 11th and 12 September this year. Gudni A. Emilsson conducts at the MACM Hall of Mahidol University.

In Taipei, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan is performing the 9th Symphony conducted by Günther Herbig on the 24th September.

Mahler at the Adelaide Festival 2010

100 years after its world première, Mahler’s 8th Symphony will be performed at the Adelaide Festival in Australia (13 March 2010). Arvo Volmer leads the combined forces of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and is joined by the Adelaide Festival Chorus.
