Deutsche Grammophon have just released Mahler – The People’s Edition, a 13 CD release of the symphonies chosen by their listeners from the rich DG and Decca catalogue.

The line-up of conductors includes Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Riccardo Chailly, Carlo Maria Giulini, Herbert von Karajan, Rafael Kubelik, Zubin Mehta and Georg Solti.

Deutsche Grammophon and Decca have launched a new website celebrating Mahler’s 150th birthday and giving customers the opportunity of voting for their favourite Mahler recordings. These will be released this autumn in a new box set.

They have also made out-of-print recordings available, which you can now listen to online.

Paavo Järvi and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra have just released their new recording of the 2nd Symphony on Virgin Classics. Available at Amazon and JPC.

Arbiter Records have released a CD of a live recording of Oskar Fried conducting Von der Schönheit from Das Lied von der Erde in 1936 (with Astra Desmond, alto, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra).

Fried’s relationship with Mahler is outlined in the comprehensive liner notes.
