Mahler opens the BBC Proms

Gustav Mahler’s 8th Symphony, the “Symphony of a Thousand”, opens the 2010 BBC Proms tonight. Jiří Bělohlávek conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the joint forces of six choirs.

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 at 20:00 British Summer Time (21:00 in Paris). Listen online.

LSO and Haitink at the BBC Proms

Listen to Bernard Haitink conducting Mahler’s 9th Symphony with the London Symphony Orchestra at this year’s BBC Proms.

Mahler at the Proms

This year’s BBC Proms have a number of concerts of Mahler’s music. Matthias Goerne, Jonathan Nott, David Robertson, Dawn Upshaw, Bernard Haitink and Riccardo Chailly take their respective turns on stage at the Royal Albert Hall.

The works being performed are:

Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen – Prom 76
Symphony No.4 – Prom 59
Symphony No.6 – Prom 28
Symphony No.9 – Prom 5
